"July 12th 2011 at 9:00pm est somewhere in the city of Detroit. It was a hot muggy night in the motor city, the cicadas were buzzing along with synthesizers in the distance, the ambient still air was crackling transiently with the movements of R.F. energy and yet a young man in a hot upstairs room stands in front of a collection of various vintage vacuum tube communications equipment; ready to disperse a unique sound across the city of Detroit over the airwaves. As broadcast on shortwave via F.C.C. part 15 rules, Telegraphy compiled a forty minute live set of minimal and Detroit style techno along with ambient and noise sounds. Sounds of shortwave were captured in real time with the use of a vintage Collins R-388 vacuum tube high frequency receiver. All tracks were produced by Telegraphy. The 'Alluvial' EP is inspired by geology, human prehistory and the idea of 'deep time'- how incredibly long it has taken the planet to evolve.
I have therefore tried to express a sense of scale, which is in contrast to the more personal landscapes that inspire much of Northcape's material.
The result is this EP which contains four slow-building but still melodic tracks with a more ambient feel.
Some of the tracks are inspired by the idea of human habitation in the distant past, and others by geological space - the release image is pretty much a landscape I was imagining when I was writing the tracks.
Although they are different from my normal approach to melodic electronica (which continues to develop), I think these tracks still keep a recognizable Northcape sound.

Pinklogik is the brainchild of Jules (AKA Julie Straw). Her musical creations flirt mostly with electronic glitched out ambience, with the odd uptempo surprise here and there.
She was born in 1976 and grew up in Nottinghamshire, England, and discovered her love of electronic music at a very young age. Jules started experimenting with her own electronic sounds and music at the mere age of 16, her first set up consisted of an Amiga 600 computer, a sampling cartridge, some sampling and sequencing software and an old Yamaha keyboard with a digital synthesizer on it.

Today, Jules uses a more developed midi set up comprising of Cubase SX and various softsynths. She now resides near Bristol and this is where she does most of her work. Jules has 3 types of synaesthesia (Sound-->Colour, Time-->Space and grapheme) and is also a committed vegan (since the age of 26).

"After a small absence and a couple of single releases appearing since 2009, Pinklogik returns with a lovely new 6 track EP, "Inverse". Having two independently released full-length albums (Mosaic Electro / Learning To Trust Higher Frequencies) and a remix collection "LTTHF:Remixed" released on this very label, Inverse picks up right where LTTHF's journey ended. If you are familiar with her music, you'll be happy to know that the signature infectious and playful melodic elements are still intact on this release, and introduces some new vibes such as the more sombre moments like "Dreams Of Summer" or the techno fused "Phosphene Dance". When it was born in the mind of Italian musician Guglielmo Cherchi, 'Peaceful Atom' was intended to be a concept work about the Chernobyl disaster, and as a result of this some tracks are ideally connected to that topic: the title track (referring to the name of the first RBMK - Reactor Bolshoy Moshchnosty Kanalny - reactor), SCRAM (the emergency shutdown of a nuclear reactor), Lava Flow (the melted material erupted from the reactor after the explosion), Leaving Pripyat (the evacuation of the nearest city to the powerplant), Worm Wood Forest (the dead trees killed by the radiations) and Ignalina's Sunset (Ignalina was the last nuclear powerplant to use a RBMK reactor, the same model involved in the Chernobyl disaster, which was only shut down in 2009).
The other songs don't belong to this concept but are related to the environment pollution problem in Russia: Oka and Yenisei are the two most polluted rivers in the planet; Pylons refers to the Shukhov towers (featured on the cover artwork), which were electricity pylons on the banks of the Oka river. The remaining track, Radiologos, is a stand-alone song, but features an original jingle aired in Soviet Russia's radio stations.
'Peaceful Atom' was entirely built from scratch using laptop-based synthesizers and electric guitar, with the exception of a few samples. On 'Worm Wood Forest': Arboretum Bad Grund by Inchadney at The Free Sound Project, on 'Radiologos': Soviet jingle and radio recordings taken with an old military tubes HF radio and on 'Leaving Pripyat': electrostatic hiss taken from an old Kenwood amplifier dating from the eighties at high volume.
Test Tube is a Portuguese based netlabel, focused on presenting new artists who are exploring new sounds. Be they electronic, acoustic or other.

Logical Disorder is the name of the therapy that Javier Barrero use to balance their sinusoidal sense of duty. He develops his sounds focusing on ambient and post industrialism, remembering sometimes pop phrases and sometimes epic funeral melodies.

What is Hippocamp.net? - it's a web based music label and community that releases free music and media from up-and-coming artists.
What is a Hippocamp? - a Hippocamp is a mythical sea creature, half fish and half horse. It is also a region in the brain, a shortened version of the word Hippocampus.
How do I get involved? - We've released music by people all over the world, as the site's grown the quality of the music has increased with it. When the site begun we tried to put out all the music that was sent to us but now unfortunately we've had to limit the output.
Is there any money involved? - No, everything on the site is free. No money has ever changed hands apart from the website hosting fee and it'll hopefully stay that way.
Where is it based? - Most of the artists live in or originate from Manchester, UK - but its not exclusively a Northern thing.
When did it all begin? - Hippocamp went online in May 2001. Or maybe 2000, not too sure.

Richard Sudney (a.k.a. Monopole, Telegraphy) creates electronic music in his basement where he lives, in a suburb of Detroit. This self-taught visual artist and electronics guru makes his compilations out of field recordings that he took while roaming around empty factories and abandoned buildings around the city of Detroit.
Inside his basement, surrounded by various old analog electronics and antique vacuum tube communications equipment, monopole dabbles around, manipulating microsamples by ways of using home built audio processors and freely accessible computer programs.
As a person that has grown up in such a prolific electronic music city, you would think that he is very heavily influenced by that music scene, but you'd be mistaken. Monopole's influences range from 1920's and 30's big band jazz to orchestral music, though he is no stranger to electronic music, and listens to styles such as minimal, ambient and, of coarse, Detroit techno.
Huddled in his dark basement, monopole will remain, figuring out new ways to mold normal every day sounds into abnormal wonderful sounds.
